By a twist of fate and serendipity, its not just hobby horses than Dan is making these days! Before the arrival of our rare breed piglets Dan had been busy designing and constructing delux pig ark accommodation for them. The couple who sell the piglets saw a photo of the ark on my blog and suggested that he should offer these arks as a commercial venture to the growing numbers of Irish pig owners So any pig lovers out there, if you would like to order a custom made pig ark, email Dan to talk over your requirements. Incidentally, our children had a ball playing in the ark until they were evicted by the piglets so it would also make a wonderful wendy house. Dan is currently drawing up plans to build one in our garden, under close consultation with two very excited little girls!

I am interested in a pig ark to house a pig and litter. I am presentently unemployed so a resonable price is importanr. I am situated just north of the border, half way between Dundalk and Newry. Other orders may be possible as interest in self sustainablablilty is fast growing and I am looking for agencies as a possibility

Hi
If you’re into DIY, a pig ark of no great level of luxury can be easily cobbled together from old scrap corrugated iron sheeting and lengths of 2×4 timber with a few nails. They need about a square metre per fully grown pig. When they are smaller they shouldn’t be given so much room as they’ll soil in the house instead of outside. However, being fairly clean living creatures, if the living space isn’t large enough to have an indoor toilet that doesn’t impinge on their lying down area, they’ll go out.
I can make an ark of 6 ft by 8 ft for €550 at the last calculation. The price depends largely on the price of the curved steel top. The floor and ends are of WBP plywood, the sub-frame of treated 4×2 timber and the roof of pre-painted, curved corrugated iron sheeting. The price includes delivery.
Come back to me if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Dan Hillman
